2011 BCD Presentations
TAMBCD Packs AADR Meeting with Student Researchers
Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry was well represented by students in the pre-doctoral research program as well as those in graduate programs. Twenty DDS students presented posters at the meeting while an additional 6 students gave oral presentations. Also, 3 DDS/PhD students presented their research at the meeting along with 5 other PhD students.
TAMBCD students garner awards
Three student presenters received honors from prestigious student research competitions and others garnered travel awards.
DDS/PhD student Anika Voisey (mentored Dr. Jerry Feng) was awarded second place in the Senior Category, and Dr. Maria Serrano (mentored by Dr. Kathy Svoboda) was a finalist in the Post-doctoral Category, of the prestigious AADR Hatton Awards competition. For her award Ms. Voisey will be funded by the AADR to present her results at the IADR meeting this July in Barcelona, Spain.
D2 student Paul Dyer (mentored by Dr. Kathy Svoboda) was awarded third place, and D2 student Karen Liang (mentored by Dr. Robert Spears) was a finalist, in the Basic Sciences Category of the DENTSPLY/Caulk competition.

Anika Voisey
Two BCD DDS students were each awarded a highly competitive AADR Summer Research Fellowship. These were given to DDS/PhD student John Bonds (mentored by Drs. Rena D'Souza and Gabriele Mues) and D1 student Ida Khobahy (mentored by Dr. Robert Spears).
PhD student Yao Sun (mentored Dr. Chunlin Qin) and D2 student Amatey Wensel (mentored by Dr. Jerry Feng) were both recipients of travel award from the AADR Mineralized Tissue Group.
TAMBCD/National Student Research Group

D3 student Niyati Mehta finished her term as Vice-President of the AADR National Student Research Group. At the meeting D2 student Jennifer Lee became the new Secretary for the organization.
The TAMBCD Student Research Group received its awards for Most Student Abstracts presented at the meeting and Most New AADR student members.

Student also presented at ADEA meeting
Making sure everyone gets recognized, one student, D2 student Andrew Philley, gave a poster presentation at the ADEA meeting prior to the AADR meeting.
