Aphthous Ulcer (Canker Sore) Study
Do you suffer from aphthous ulcers (canker sores)?

If you have a history of aphthous ulcer ulcers (canker sores), you may be eligible for this research study. Researchers at the Texas A&M University Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry are performing a trial to test the efficacy of an oral topical powder that may reduce the symptoms and healing time associated with these ulcers.
What is the purpose of this study?
This study will test the efficacy of a drug combination called 2-DeNT Oral Topical Powder in the treatment of mouth sores also known as aphthous ulcers or canker sores. Although there are many treatments proposed to treat these mouth ulcers, few have been shown to be effective, and there is only one current medication that is FDA approved.
In the present study, 2-DeNT Oral Topical Powder will be applied topically as a powder to your aphthous ulcer(s) within 48 hours of its development. The objective of the study will be to see if the drug combination promotes healing and reduces pain.
Are there any benefits to participating in the study?
Although we cannot guarantee that you will benefit from the study, we are hoping that this research will show improvements in the healing time and amount of discomfort associated with these mouth ulcers. Ultimately, you and many others may benefit if the drug is found to be effective and made available to the public.
Those who qualify and complete the study may be compensated $70.
What do I need to do if I participate in this study?
If you qualify for this study, you will be asked to present to the clinic within 48 hours of a new ulcer. You will be instructed to apply a powder directly to the mouth ulcer 2 times a day until the ulcer is gone. You will be asked to keep a daily log recording the size, appearance, and pain associated with the ulcer.
You will need to complete the above course of events two times. Each time you will be testing a different powder; one power will the active test drugs and the other will be a similar appearing powder but without test drugs. It is anticipated that the powder without the test drugs will have no effect on the healing and discomfort of your ulcer(s).
