BCD assists in hurricane relief efforts, dental health education and health fairs

  • The Department of Public Health Sciences donated 21,650 toothbrushes at Dallas' Reunion Arena to benefit hurricane evacuees. The department also has received a grant from the American Dental Association in the amount of $56,610 to treat victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

  • In September, D3 students made Tooth Talk presentations in Dallas at a senior center, the Science Place, a Head Start program and an elementary school.

  • Students also participated in seven health fairs in Dallas. Supervising dentists for the D2, D3 and D4 students were Dr. John Nelson, professor emeritus of diagnostic sciences; Dr. Stephen Crane, clinical assistant professor of public health sciences; and Dr. Danette McNew, assistant professor of general dentistry.
