Dr. Carolyn Wilson was the first person
in her family ever to attend college, and she didn't stop with an undergraduate degree. She continued her studies to obtain her dental degree as well as a master's degree in pediatric dentistry.
Today, she is an associate professor of pediatric dentistry at Baylor College of Dentistry.
During the past 25 years, Wilson has seen tremendous growth at BCD. It is the labs, though, that demonstrate the biggest changes, she says, especially the Sim Lab.
The most rewarding aspect of her tenure at BCD has been working with the dental students and pediatric dentistry residents.
"I really enjoy seeing them progress as dentists and specialists," she says. Serving as a marshal during the college's commencement exercises each year allows Wilson to
actively participate in their formal transition from students to alumni.
Not surprisingly, the students are the source of fond memories. "My favorite memory over the past 25 years is the time the students wrote, 'Happy Birthday Carolyn' in the
snow," she says. "They did that in the courtyard before it was roofed in."
Wilson is grateful to colleagues and family for their encouragement of her career.
"My father, who died recently, was my biggest supporter," she said. "I also thank Dr. Paul P. Taylor and Dr. Suzi Seale for all their support and mentoring throughout the years."
When she is not working with students, Wilson enjoys hockey, traveling and shopping.
