Dr. Bob Hutchins credits "the people at Baylor" with
keeping him at Baylor College of Dentistry for 20 years.
The associate professor of biomedical sciences teaches gross anatomy and neuroscience. He credits his love of teaching at BCD to "seeing the light go on when students get it."
Hutchins is also a research leader in the area of the mechanisms of pain and inflammation affecting the temporomandibular joint. He assists BCD and the health science center overall through
various faculty-run groups and serves on the Anatomic Sciences Test Construction Committee for the national board exam.
In spite of his serious focus on education and research, though, Hutchins' favorite memory during his years at BCD is the debate concerning whether males could wear beards.
While the past 20 years have brought many changes at the dental school, Hutchins believes the use of personal computers has marked the biggest transition.
"The first one I used was built from a Heath kit," he says.
When he is not teaching or conducting research, Hutchins enjoys creating stained glass and riding his motorcycle through the country on a balmy day. He credits his family with
keeping him grounded and making life worth living.
