Scott Frederick, audio-video specialist at Baylor
College of Dentistry, is an integral part of the team that has led the charge in bringing BCD into the modern age of technology. Frederick provides maintenance and support for the new digital classrooms,
video conferencing and video production. Without him, many of those unversed in information technology would still be struggling to use the new equipment effectively.
In spite of being involved in some of the most significant changes BCD has seen, though, Frederick feels the biggest change he has seen has been in the dress code.
"When I started, the dress code was white shirts and ties," he recalls. "Now it's mostly scrubs and sneakers."
His favorite memory is clear in his mind. "The day they announced Dr. Cole was appointed dean is the highlight," he says. "I don't think I have ever seen – before or
since that day – such a universal spontaneous roar of excitement from everyone in the room."
Frederick enjoys his job because of the "people and the toys," and he finds time away from BCD to enjoy golf and "whatever sport is in season with my children including football, soccer, basketball and baseball."
Frederick puts his family first, quoting Desmond Tutu: "You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them."
He encourages others to "have faith and live strong."
