Becky DeSpain Eden stays busy wearing
multiple hats in public health sciences.
Her primary responsibility is with the dental clinic at the Dallas County Juvenile Detention Center, which BCD's Department of Public Health Sciences operates. DeSpain Eden, a
registered dental hygienist and associate professor of public health sciences, serves as clinic coordinator for the facility.
In addition, she is a clinical associate professor in the Department of Health and Preventive Medicine at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth.
And even with those duties, DeSpain Eden finds time to pursue her doctoral degree as a part-time student at UNTHSC's School of Public Health.
"I guess that means my hobbies, then, are studying and driving on I-30," she jokes.
The biggest changes DeSpain Eden has seen in her 20 years with BCD are the advancements in information technology and the speed of communications. She enjoys
the broad scope of her responsibilities, which encompass the various aspects of BCD's mission.
"I enjoy the variety of activities, from patient care to research," she says. "My favorite days, though, are the first day of class for new students and graduation each year."
She says she has remained for two decades because of the opportunity for continuous learning. "Being in dental education gives me the opportunity to be a perpetual student," she says.
