The past 25 years have gone quickly, according to
Dr. William H. "Bill" Binnie.
And they've gone well, he says, "thanks to the loyalty and friendliness of the faculty and staff at Baylor College of Dentistry." His favorite memory occurred just this past May when he gave the commencement
address to BCD graduates at the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas.
A native of Glasgow, Scotland, Binnie came to BCD as professor and chair of oral pathology in 1979. He already had led an illustrious career on the faculty of oral
medicine and pathology at Guy's Hospital Medical and Dental School in London.
Since 1990 Binnie has served as professor and chair of BCD's Department of Diagnostic Sciences, which was created through a merger of the departments of
pathology, radiology and oral diagnosis. An A&M System Regents professor, he concurrently serves as vice president for academic affairs at the Texas A&M Health Science Center.
Binnie holds appointments at Baylor University Medical Center and Methodist Hospitals of Dallas as a consultant pathologist. He also is a clinical professor of surgery
in the Division of Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He lectures extensively, has published more than 70 peer reviewed
articles and 11 book chapters and is co-author of seven textbooks on oral disease.
With others, Binnie has received more than $1.2 million in funded grants. He serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Oral Pathology and Medicine and Journal of Evidence Based Dental Practice.
Although his plate seems full, Binnie also finds time to enjoy golf and soccer as well as his family.
"I am very lucky to have a wonderful wife and kids without tattoos," he chuckles.
