OMS Residency Admission Requirements

  • All applicants must be currently enrolled in an ADA-accredited US. or Canadian dental school, or hold a DDS or DMD degree from an ADA-accredited US. or Canadian dental school. Dentists with degrees from foreign countries are not eligible. Doctors with MD or DO degrees from accredited medical schools may be considered for a combined DDS/Medical degree Certificate program that is available.

  • All applicants should have a composite score of at least 90 on Part I of the National Board Examination to be considered eligible for application.

  • Due to the highly competitive nature of the BCD OMS residency application process, all applicants should ideally be in the top 15% of their dental school class, have a high GPA, and have letters that attest to demonstrated interest and potential in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Although others will be reviewed and considered, in all likelihood their applications will not be competitive.

  • All applicants must submit their application through PASS in order to be considered for interviews. Most of our applicants are selected through the National Match program. PASS packets are obtained from the ADEA. Contact your school administration for information.

  • All applicants must submit at least 3 letters of recommendation from dental school faculty, in addition to their PASS package, with its applicant's personal motivational statement letter. At least one letter should ideally be from oral and maxillofacial surgery faculty at the dental school.

  • Interviews are by invitation. If invited, all applicants are expected to interview in person to be considered for residency appointment.

  • All interviews are held on one day, usually in early December, and substantial notice is given of the date so applicants can try and get favorable airfares to and from Dallas/Fort Worth airport. Interviewees should plan on arriving the night prior to the interviews, because they begin very early in the morning. Do not plan to depart Dallas on the day of the interviews before 7pm, so you have time to travel to the airport (about 45 minutes) and arrive with sufficient lead time for security clearance at the airport. Interviews often run until 4:00-5:00 in the afternoon, depending on how many applicants have accepted invitations.

  • Housing and transportation needs are the responsibility of the applicants but we will assist as much as possible in locating affordable housing. Contact the OMS Graduate Secretary at 214-828-8170 for information and assistance.
