of local anesthesia, pain and anxiety control, dentoalveolar surgery, and management of medical emergencies during dental
treatment. Graduating dental students over the past decade have accomplished an average of 128 surgical procedures (minimum: 100), 8 pre prosthetic procedures (minimum: 6) and 6 inhalation sedation cases
managed (minimum: 5). This level of clinical experience is highly unique, making BCD graduates highly sought after for graduate training. They also gain a lot of practical patient management experience
in a "living laboratory" of walk-in emergency patients who have infection, dental pain, and other acute conditions. For more information about courses, admission to the College, and current

Externships. The OMS/P Department encourages 3rd and 4th year dental students who have an interest in further training in oral and maxillofacial surgery to seek externships at other teaching institutions to enhance their education and the exposure they receive in the traditional curriculum. In turn, the Department accepts applications from students in good standing from all other dental schools to participate in month-long (usually) oral surgery externships at this institution. These opportunities provide 3rd and 4th year dental students who have potential interest in graduate training in OMS with the opportunity to experience a close-up look at the residency training program at BCD. Externs observe the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery practice while they are still in Predoctoral training.
