Primary Responsibilities

Serves as Director for the Postgraduate Surgical Education program, and Residency program Director, and supervises the performance of all OMS Residents and Fellows in training. He participates in the Faculty Intramural private practice, Professional Services.

S ParelAfter completing a 20-year career in the U.S. Army Dental Corps and retiring from the military in 1986 with the rank of Colonel, Dr. Schow was recruited to BCD to serve as the OMS Residency Program Director. He has done so for more than 15 years, and during that time the program has grown both in size and stature.

The OMS Residency program is nationally recognized as one of the top training programs in the nation, and the training positions are highly sought after each year, with 40-50 applicants competing for each position.

Dr. Schow also serves a a consultant in OMS to the Commission on Accreditation of the American Dental Association and as an examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a peer reviewer for several professional journals, and has written chapters for numerous professional textbooks. His primary surgical interests include facial trauma, reconstructive surgery, dental implants, orthognathic surgery and dentoalveolar surgery. He continues to serve as a consultant for numerous military OMS training programs nationwide.
