Dr. Alexander is an
excellent clinician and popular speaker who has presented talks in several different topic areas, coast to coast. He served in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps for 27.5 years, rising to the
rank of Captain, when he was recruited in 1990 to join the BCD Faculty. His talents as an experienced clinician, clinically oriented scientist, and his entertaining style of
speaking gave him an ability to take complex topics and make them understandable to other clinicians. He has appeared as an invited speaker to most major dental meetings,
including the American Dental Association, Chicago Midwinter, New York Dental Meeting, Yankee Dental Congress, Star of the North Dental Meeting, the Southwestern Dental
Meeting at Dallas, the California Dental Association Annual Meeting, and others.
Dr. Alexander has authored over 55 articles in the medical, dental, nursing, and pharmaceutical literature, and several textbook
chapters. Many of his articles were on "pioneer" topics not recently explored by other authors and researchers, but always relevant to clinical practice. He serves as a consultant to
numerous postgraduate education programs here at BCD and with the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy Dental Corps. Auxiliary groups have enjoyed his talks on professional stress and
stress management, and suicide in dentistry. He has been involved in teaching CPR for over 30 years and is currently the Coordinator and Texas Regional Faculty for the American Heart
Association Training Site at BCD. He has turned the BCD Predoctoral surgery program into a role model for the nation, and serves on several national committees related to Predoctoral education.
