Dr. DriskoDr. Connie Hastings Drisko, a 1961 graduate of Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry’s Caruth School of Dental Hygiene, was a practicing dental hygienist for 16 years before receiving a dental degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and completing a hospital-based general practice residency at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Leavenworth, Kansas. She received a certificate in periodontics and became a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology in 1990, was elected as a director in 2000 and served as chair in 2006.

Dr. Drisko serves as Dean and Merritt Professor at Georgia Regents University College of Dental Medicine in Augusta. In 2011, Dr. Drisko joined the ADEAGies Foundation board of trustees and the American Dental Association’s Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations. The Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia honored her that year with a Women of Distinction award. Dr. Drisko was named to the executive committee for the Georgia Society of Periodontists for 2010-2012.

Since 2010, Dr. Drisko has been a faculty member for the American Dental Education Association Leadership Institute, a year-long program designed to develop the nation’s most promising individuals at academic dental institutions to become future leaders in dental and higher education. She is a fellow of the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy, with election to Omicron Kappa Upsilon in 1988. In 2001, she was selected as a fellow for the Executive Leadership Academic Medicine program. Dr. Drisko served as chair of the ADEA Women’s Advisory Committee and is a member of the ADEA Dean’s Council.

Prior to her role as dean of Georgia’s dental school, a post she has held since 2003, Dr. Drisko served in several other leadership and teaching roles. Previous academic appointments include associate professor of periodontics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City dental school and professor and chair of the Department of Periodontics, Endodontics and Dental Hygiene at the University of Louisville in Kentucky, where she ultimately served as associate dean for research and associate dean for academic planning and faculty development.

As Dr. Drisko’s more than 60 published papers and monographs reveal, her research interests focus on nonsurgical periodontal therapy and dentin hypersensitivity. Through participation in numerous symposia and expert panels, she shares knowledge on these topics, as well as the issues of local drug delivery and oral health systemic diseases.
