Health Professions Education Program

Downloads:

The Health Professions Education Program is a two-year post-graduate program resulting in a Master of Science degree in Health Professions Education.

Program Rationale

There is a lack of formal training in health professions education and most faculty members enter the teaching profession directly out of training programs or after clinical practice. New faculty members become frustrated at their lack of preparation for teaching, research or administrative service skills necessary for success in an academic setting. This program provides the opportunity for individuals to develop the background and skills necessary to be excellent teachers in their areas of specialty and conduct research to improve and innovate educational programs in health professions education.

Program Overview

The program provides students with the foundations for academic careers in dental education settings. Specific program objectives are for students to:

  • Develop foundational knowledge and skills for conducting research
  • Develop teaching skills and construct effective learning environments
  • Become well-versed in higher education issues

This program has a strong and unique focus on developing faculty with solid entry-level academic skills.
