The mission of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is to provide a high quality of student teaching, patient surgical care, basic and clinical research and charitable community outreach.
To carry out this mission, the Department offers a wide range of faculty expertise and state of the art clinical facilities. The training programs are extensively integrated with other high quality healthcare institutions, such as Texas Tech University Medical Center, Baylor University Medical Center, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, and Medical City Hospital. The faculty teach at all levels within the HSC system and additionally have a very prominent national and international reputation for excellence in oral and maxillofacial surgery. All programs at the College are fully accredited by appropriate state, regional, and national agencies. All surgical faculty members are licensed to practice in the state of Texas.
Center for Maxillofacial Prosthodontics
In the Fall of 2001, the Texas A&M Health Science Center and the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery opened it’s new, $1.5 million Center for Maxillofacial Prosthodontics. This is the first center of its kind in North Texas, and one of only a few such centers in the United States. It exists for the primary purpose of assisting patients who require reconstruction of acquired and congenital oral and facial deformities, restoring normal appearance, function and facial contour to patients who have lost ears, noses, eyes, etc., as a result of injury, cancer treatment, or birth defects.
