Dental Career

I'm a graduating senior.  My teacher prepared a research project for us. It's about my career of choice. Could you help me with these questions? Thanks. Here they are:

What skills, education or training are required? What are the duties of a Dentist? What is the working environment like? What are the opportunites for advancement? What is the starting salary? What is the maximum wage you can expect to earn? How much of the work day is spent using the following skills: writing, mathematics, listening, speaking, following directions, reading?  Well, that's it. Thank you for your time.

Thanks for your interest in the profession of dentistry . The answer to your first question can be found at our web site www.tambcd.edu under the catalog, then sections general information and admissions. As to the other questions your responsibility in the profession is to care for the oral health of your patients. You make the environment what you wish since dentistry is an independent business. Compensation is not in terms of wages. You are limited in your income only by your own motivation and the average general practitioner earns approximately $125,730 net according to a 1995 American Association of Dental Schools survey. It is difficult to place a percentage of time you would spend in each of the skills you mention because every practice is unique but I will say that each of the skills is critical to the practice of dentistry.

Best of luck in your assignment and I hope you continue to pursue your goal of entering the dental profession.
