originated from an initial partnership between Baylor College of Medicine
and SEARCH Homeless Project. The mission of HHH is to promote
health, hope, and dignity for Houston's homeless through accessible and
comprehensive care. The HHH Dental Program provides comprehensive oral
health services to homeless adults to address the vast need for dental
care in this population. In 2005, 863 unduplicated homeless individuals
received pre-screening and/or comprehensive dental care through the
program. This amounted to 2,781 encounters, yielding 4,608 units of
service. Mission of the Dental Program: The HHH Dental Program believes it
is essential to listen to the patients and understand their needs and
desires, to educate all of our patients so they can take an active role in
their treatment, and to obtain a commitment from patients to maintain
their dental health. Goals
of the Dental Program: •
To remove barriers to oral healthcare faced by homeless clients by
bringing dental care directly to them. •
To improve self-esteem and prepare patients for self-sufficiency through
comprehensive dental treatment. •
To provide a comprehensive range of services. •
To empower patients to practice appropriate oral self-care through
individual health education. |
