Baylor College of Dentistry's nationally syndicated television oral health news report, "Dental Health Check," airs locally each Monday during WFAA-TV's 6 a.m. and noon newscasts. In addition, "Dental Health Check" segments are
now rebroadcast several times a day on the Texas Cable News Network.
"Dental Health Check" is available on BCD's Web site as well. Visit the site for scripts and information about the latest segments. Hosted by Dr. Linda Niessen (BCD), the report's recent topics include:
- "Botox and Facial Pain" featuring Dr. Richard Riggs. Botox injections temporarily paralyze muscles. Doctors now are treating patients with the medication who suffer from face or jaw pain caused by muscle contractions.
- "Early Dental Care" featuring Dr. Alejandra Villasenor
(BCD '90). American dentists and pediatricians now recommend a dental check-up early in a young child's life. Many immigrant families new to American customs are adopting what is often a new cultural practice.
- "Mouth Breathers" featuring Dr. Mark Kogut (BCD '77, '79) and Dr. Michael Biavati, an ear, nose and throat specialist. Dentists are detecting a hidden health problem in some children and adults. One symptom is tooth
decay, but the underlying cause may surprise you.
- "Practice Patients" featuring Dr. Tom McKinney (BCD '68 and BCD) and several second-year dental students. Dental students at BCD are using a mannequin for practicing dental techniques. The state-of-the-art simulation
lab features mannequins and dental chairs that help them prepare for real patients.
- "Whitening Sensitivity" featuring Dr. Tammy Weyandt
(BCD '98). No other cosmetic procedure has gained more popularity in recent years than teeth whitening. Some patients develop sensitivity either in the teeth or the gum tissue, or sometimes both.

Dr. Catherine Judd-Stratman (BCD '01, '03) was featured in a profile segment that appeared in the May 2005 issue of the Plano Profile in Plano, Texas.
Dr. Frank Miller (BCD '61) was featured in "Miller campaigns for Rockwall mayor's post." The article appeared in the April 2005 issue of the Rockwall County News in Rockwall, Texas. He also was featured in "A Closer Look: Election Day 2005." The article appeared in the April 2005 issue of the Rockwall-Rowlett Morning News in Dallas.
Dr. Saha Sabita (BCD '95) was featured in "Women in Business." The article appeared in the May 2005 issue of the Plano Profile.
