Presentations: The August issue of the Baylor Dental Record Online reported several department presentations at the 81st General Session of the International Association for Dental Research in Göteborg, Sweden, June 25-28. Dr. Robert Spears, BCD SRG and NSRG faculty adviser, also attended the meeting. Dr. Kathy Svoboda attended the SSS-U S10 Instrumentation Study Section meeting Sept. 3 in Washington, D.C. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/Pharmacology Presentation: Dr. Uwe Frohberg was invited by the Association for the Study of Internal Fixation to lecture on "Team Approach to Craniomaxillofacial Trauma and Reconstruction" Aug. 8 in Foster City, Calif. Orthodontics Presentation: Dr. Reginald Taylor presented "Practical Issues in Orthodontic Assisting" at the National Dental Association meeting in New Orleans Aug. 4. Periodontics Publication: Haghighat N, Al-Hashimi I. The status of lactoferrin and total iron binding capacity of human parotid saliva in Sjögren's syndrome. Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology 21:485-488, 2003. Other News: Dr. William Hallmon and Dr. Terry Rees were among 126 participants who attended a Contemporary Science Workshop sponsored by the American Academy of Periodontology July 27-29 in Chicago. The workshop discussed using evidence-based methodologies to evaluate the efficacy of emerging periodontal therapies. Public Health Sciences Presentations: Dr. Kenneth Bolin was invited to present "Community Health Center Dentist Job Satisfaction and Salary Survey" during the National Primary Oral Health Care Conference Aug. 10-14 in Sedona, Ariz. Sponsored by the Health Resources and Services Administration's Bureau of Primary Health Care, the conference's theme was "Best Practice for Oral Health Service Expansion." More than 300 dentists, dental hygienists and administrative personnel from community health centers across the nation attended the conference. Elain Benton, Dr. Jacqueline Plemons, Dr. K. Vendrell Rankin and Dr. Terry Rees presented "AIDS Education," a continuing education program for Texas correctional facility dental personnel, July 11 at Baylor College of Dentistry. Publication: Rankin served as guest editor of the June 2003 issue of the Texas Dental Journal. |
