OMS/P department recognizes student volunteers
The undergraduate faculty of Baylor College of Dentistry's
Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/Pharmacology hosted the fifth annual Appreciation Cookout for 20 third- and fourth-year dental students who volunteered their break time to help care for patients with
infection and pain problems. The students provided care for more than 350 patients who reported to the Emergency Clinic during the official school break July 21 to Aug. 15.
"The cookout demonstrates our appreciation for these students who have given their discretionary time each morning to assist patients in pain," said Dr. Roger Alexander,
professor and director of undergraduate surgery training in the department. "Dr. Oksana Bodinsky, assistant clinical professor of restorative sciences, provided
additional assistance in performing diagnostic screenings of the patients and remaining available for diagnostic consultations."
Held in Alexander's home, the cookout's expenses were shared by Alexander; Dr. Pedro Franco, assistant professor of OMS/P; Dr. Uwe Frohberg, associate professor of OMS/P; Dr. David Grogan
(BCD '81, '86), assistant professor of OMS/P; and Dr. Gil Triplett, Regents professor and chair of OMS/P. Students and their spouses dined on bratwurst and sauerkraut, hamburgers and all the trimmings.
