One intern, Terica Bernard, was accepted into BCD's Summer Predental Enrichment Program from May 29 to July 25. She received the $1,000 Texas Health Resources Healthcare
Scholarship during the Conrad program. Bernard is a senior at the University of Texas at Dallas.
Rankin edits winning issue
Dr. K. Vendrell Rankin (BCD '77), professor of public health sciences, was guest editor of the award-winning June 2002 issue of the Texas Dental Journal. The International
College of Dentists' Dental Journalism Competition bestowed its Platinum Pen Award for Division 1 in the United States for 2002.
The award praises the journal for "clarity of the presentation and the use of graphics and multimedia to create a superb outline that can be used as an enduring reference for the dental
practitioner." The issue featured the CD-ROM titled "Differential Diagnosis of Common Oral Lesions," which was written by Dr. Gary Coleman, associate professor and director
of oral diagnosis in diagnostic sciences, with the assistance of Scott Frederick, audio-visual specialist in media resources. The issue was made possible through the
combined resources of the Dental Oncology Education Program, the Texas Cancer Council, the Texas Dental Association and the Texas Dental Foundation.
Rankin will receive the award during the American Dental Association's annual session in October.
