Lab 30 and clinic renovations completed on schedule
Baylor College of
Dentistry's Laboratory 30 was renovated in time for the new academic year. The lab includes the same state-of-the-art media equipment as the college's one-year-old Dental Simulation
Laboratory, making it ideal for preclinical lab instruction and clinical continuing education. First-year dental students are the primary beneficiaries of the new facility, which they use for preclinical operative
dentistry and dental anatomy.
The lab's renovation was funded in part by the Baylor Oral Health Foundation. Dr. Brent Hutson
(BCD '93), assistant professor of restorative sciences, is responsible for Lab 30 activities and will coordinate these efforts with Dr. Margaret Yanus, assistant professor of restorative
sciences, who oversees the Sim Lab.
Dental clinics throughout the building received major enhancements in July and August as well. A total of 190 ADEC dental chairs, units and lights
were replaced, which standardized all 307 dental chairs at the college. In addition, major aesthetic and functional renovations for the predoctoral, dental hygiene and graduate prosthodontics clinics were completed.
"These projects represent
important improvements for BCD and the commitment by Dr. James Cole (BCD '75 – dean) that the college remain a leader in dental education and quality patient care," said Dr. Thomas Hasegawa, associate
dean for clinical services.
All of the renovations were completed on schedule by members of the Department of Facilities Services and Planning, led by Dale Christensen, executive director of the department. "BCD is fortunate to
have such a diligent crew and leadership to make these projects a reality," Hasegawa said. "Completing the projects on time is a major accomplishment for BCD."
