The lab features 100 simulation units where second-year dental students learn and practice preclinical techniques. This hands-on environment simulates varied aspects of patient treatment, preparing the
students to work with real patients at the conclusion of the academic year. In addition, the lab has interdisciplinary capabilities along with opportunities for conducting continuing education courses.
"The lab – with its mannequin heads, typodonts and simulation units – represents the newest approach in dental education, where students can be exposed as quickly as possible to the realities of working on
patients in a clinical setting," said Dr. Thomas K. Hasegawa Jr., professor and associate dean for clinical services.
Dr. Margaret Yanus,
clinical assistant professor of restorative sciences, served as simulation laboratory coordinator on the Simulation Review Team. In addition to Hasegawa and Yanus, other team members were: Dr. Charles Arcoria
