BCD faculty, students tapped for leadership

AAA makes appointments
Dr. Kathy Svoboda, professor of biomedical sciences, was re-elected to a second four-year term as program chair of the American Association of Anatomists. As chair, she organizes
national programs including the annual Experimental Biology meeting.
The association appointed Dr. Pei Kang (BCD '02), a resident in BCD's graduate endodontics program, to a student/postdoctoral counselor position. Kang, Svoboda and AAA board member
Dr. Lynne Opperman, assistant professor of biomedical sciences, will attend the association's October executive meeting in Washington, D.C.
NSRG elects two BCD students
The American Association for Dental Research's National Student Research Group elected two BCD students to its leadership recently. Erik Kern (D3) was elected president and Joe Rawlins
(D2) was elected vice president.
"This is an exciting event for BCD and further demonstrates the quality and involvement of our students in research efforts," said Dr. Robert Spears (BCD '02), assistant professor of
biomedical sciences and faculty adviser to BCD's Student Research Group.
Kern also serves the BCD group as president. Other BCD SRG officers include: David Coon (D3), president-elect; Pam Nicoara (D4), vice president; Matt Heaton
(D3), secretary; Raenie Oakes (D4), treasurer; Edie Crouch (D2), editor; and Carly Moore (D3) and John Roberts (D2), councilors.
