The Sullivans have a daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and Andy Kiser, and a 4-year-old granddaughter, Erin. Their daughter teaches in Mesquite, Texas, while their son-in-law is a Garland, Texas, teacher.
Hometown: Garland is my hometown. I began the first grade when the city had one elementary school.
Place I'd like to live/retire: I plan to retire in Garland, but the hill country south of Austin, Texas, would be a great retirement location.
Role model:
Dickson Rail, pastor of Orchard Hills Baptist Church, is my role model. He is devoted to his work, faithful to live as he preaches, loves the members of the church as well as his family, and cares about each individual and their needs. He is truly a great leader in today's world.
Personal motto: Today is a new opportunity; I will strive to do the best job at whatever task is before me.
Best thing about my job or BCD:
The environment of working at BCD is wonderful. Having the opportunity to work in an educational institution and associate with my colleagues in the office and at parties in my home is exciting.
Career highlight:
I had the opportunity to assist with the Kraft Foods' national accounting program, currently being used to price the products that are manufactured. When I was a manager and director of the Dallas Times Herald/Channel
4 Federal Credit Union, making personal loans to the members and serving on the board of directors was rewarding.
If I weren't at BCD, I'd be: gardening in the yard or volunteering in some work to continue to be involved with people.
Life philosophy: Live today fully and leave something of value for others in the future.
Pet peeves: Being late for an appointment is my pet peeve.
Favorite vacation destination:
Theme parks in Missouri, Tennessee, Florida, California and Texas are good vacation destinations. Family members and/or relatives are usually involved in the activities.
Dream car: New Ford T-Bird
Favorite hobbies: I enjoy playing tennis, fishing, hunting and gardening. I can relax and have fun with my friends.
Word that best describes me: Caring
Top three passions: My relationship with Jesus Christ is my first priority, followed by my relationship with my family and friends. All are very important to me.
Things you might not know about me: I was born in England, Ark., and moved to Texas at the age of 4. I was a candidate for vice president of the freshman class at Baylor University. I served on
active duty in the U.S. Army in 1963-64. I am an ordained deacon at Orchard Hills Baptist Church and a member of the National Exchange Club.
What my colleagues say about me: "Tom is a really great person, and you can always count on him to give you a friendly smile and a pleasant word," said Marty Baylor, director of financial
services. "It's nice to work with Tom because he is so kind and diligent with his job."
"Tom is a detail-oriented individual who will follow a task all the way through to its completion," said Dale Christensen, executive director of facilities services and planning. "You can depend on
him and rest assured knowing that his word is his bond."
"In August 1994, a special person became a part of Baylor College of Dentistry," said Ray Covington,
who retired from BCD in 1998 as vice president of business services. "Tom is one of the most dedicated and caring people at the college. I found a wonderful friend as well as a wonderful co-worker in him."
"When I think of Tom, I immediately think of the perfect gentleman in every description of the word," said Betty Hagins, executive assistant in business services. "He is a very dedicated and hard
worker, and he has met some challenges over the last eight years. Tom has remained focused and is always willing to give you a helping hand and a nice smile. I am very happy to have him on our team and as my friend."
