Announcements A&M System Dr. Rumaldo Z. Juarez was appointed president of Texas A&M University-Kingsville July 26 during a meeting of The Texas A&M University System board of regents. Also on July 26, the regents approved a $2.182 billion expenditure budget that will fund operations at the system's nine universities, eight state agencies and health science center in fiscal year 2003. Baylor Dental Record Online BCD faculty, staff and students are encouraged to submit professional and personal news for publication in the Baylor Dental Record Online, BCD's monthly online newsletter. Some submissions may be held for other publications such as the Baylor Dental Journal, the college's annual magazine, or C-Scan, the bimonthly newsletter of The Texas A&M University System Health Science Center. The Baylor Dental Record, a printed newsletter, will no longer be published. The deadline for submissions is generally the Friday following the first Monday of each month. However, a reminder will be sent via e-mail prior to each deadline. To submit news or for more information, contact Elizabeth J. Notice BCD's annual on-campus blood drive is set for Sept. 25 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Room 604. Open to faculty, staff and students, the blood drive is part of a Texas-wide appeal for blood donors from various blood centers in the state. No appointment is necessary – just stop by when your schedule permits. The appointment takes from 45 minutes to an hour and includes four steps: registration, mini-physical, blood donation and snacks. A routine whole blood donation usually takes only 10 minutes. Holidays for the components of The Texas A&M University System Health Science Center were approved for the 2003 fiscal year by the system's board of regents. Dr. Barry Nelson, HSC vice president for finance and administration, announced the holidays to BCD in a memo dated Aug. 14. They are:

Obituaries Grace Harrington passed away July 22 in Dallas. Her granddaughter is Carolyn Cox, senior publications editor in communications and development. Elvin Nelson passed away Aug. 11 in Mounds View, Minn. His son-in-law is Dale Christensen, executive director of facilities services and planning. Dolores Peeler passed away Aug. 23. A BCD employee since 1988, she served in various capacities in the college's Department of General Dentistry. Peeler was featured in "Employee Profile" in the July issue of the Baylor Dental Record Online, available on the college's Web site. Johnnie Lee Thomas passed away in July. Her son is Carl Brown, security guard in security. Reminder Health Care Provider Renewal Courses (CPR classes) will be held at 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sept. 12, 18 and 19 and on Oct. 5, 10, 16, 19 and 24. Retirement Joy Wilson, college nurse in the Student Health Clinic, retired Aug. 23 after 20 years of service at BCD. A reception in her honor was held July 2. Women's Club The BCD Women's Club will hold its kick-off meeting Sept. 12 at noon in Room 604. Anyone affiliated with Baylor College of Dentistry is welcome to join.
