Biomaterials Science
Presentation: Dr. Toru Okabe attended the Second International Tribology Conference in Zielona Gora, Poland, Aug. 25-28. He was co-author of a presentation titled "Wear Resistance of Experimental
Ti-Cu Alloys." He also served as chair of the session on "Tribology of Material Surfaces."
Other News: Okabe's working time will be 80 percent until Sept. 1, 2003. During this time, Dr. Barbara Miller will serve as vice chair of the department.
Diagnostic Sciences
Presentation: Dr. Byron W. Benson presented a continuing education program at the Mid-Atlantic Naval Reserve Dental Seminar held at the National Naval Dental Center at Bethesda, Md., Sept. 21-22.
The program was titled "Radiology and Your Dental Practice: An Update for the 21st Century."

Dr. Rolf G. Behrents presented a one-day program titled "Complications in Orthodontics, Skeletal Growth and Treatment in Adults" during the 56th International Meeting of Dentistry at the UNESP School of Dentistry in Araraquara, Brazil, Aug. 19-25.

Presentation:
Drs. Nancy Burkhart and Terry Rees hosted a discussion session for the International Oral Lichen Planus Support Group Sept. 17. Guests included Drs. Palle Holmstrup, Anne Marie Pedersen, Jesper Reibel and Lis Andersen Torpet, all of Copenhagen, Denmark.

The department congratulates Carol Libby as she begins her role as president of Baylor College of Dentistry's Women's Club for 2002-2003. She brings a special wit and wisdom to the organization in her quest to strengthen the club's presence at the college.
