BCD in the News

Baylor College of Dentistry's nationally syndicated television oral health news report, "Dental Health Check," airs locally each Monday during WFAA-TV's 6 a.m. and noon newscasts. In addition, "Dental Health Check" segments are now rebroadcast several times a day on the Texas Cable News Network.

"Dental Health Check is available on BCD's Web site as well. Visit the site for scripts and information about the latest segments. Hosted by Dr. Linda Niessen (BCD), the report's recent topics include:

• "Root of Pain" featuring Dr. Hedley Rakusin (BCD '85). If your morning cup of coffee causes dental pain, you may want to see a dentist as soon as possible. Heat sensitivity can be a sign of root sensitivity.
• "School Sealants" featuring Dr. Stephen Crane (BCD '73 and BCD). The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is calling for more dental sealant programs in public schools. Recent studies show sealing a child's permanent molars can save money and reduce the number of absences from school.
• "Sports Mouthguards" featuring Dr. Gary Pointer (BCD '79). The NCAA only requires college football players to wear mouthguards, but that may change in the future. The college sports governing board may extend that requirement to other contact sports.
• "Whitening Products" featuring Dr. Chuck Wakefield (BCD). In the last five years, dentists report tooth whitening procedures have increased 300 percent. Now, many companies are bypassing the dental office and marketing whitening kits directly to the consumer.

Baylor College of Dentistry is featured in each issue of Dateline, a bimonthly newsletter published by the Dallas County Dental Society. In addition to news and feature articles, college information and highlights are reported in the "Baylor Byline" column.

Baylor College of Dentistry was mentioned as a participant in "Mi Escuelita to host 4^th Annual Family Fiesta on Saturday, Aug. 24." The article appeared in the Aug. 1 edition of the Oak Cliff Tribune in Dallas.

Dr. Jason Cope (BCD '95, '97, '99) was featured in "Exceptional new orthodontic office in Snider Plaza." The article appeared in the Aug. 15 edition of Park Cities People in Dallas.

Lana Crawford (BCD '68, '72) was featured in "Success Story." The article appeared in the Aug. 25 edition of the Dallas Morning News in Dallas.

Jed Hildebrand (D4) was featured in "They're not in Texas anymore." The article appeared in the Aug. 18 edition of the Plano Morning News in Plano, Texas, and the Aug. 21 edition of the Rockwall-Rowlett Morning News in Rockwall, Texas.
