Dr. Roger Alexander, professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery/pharmacology, and Dr. Miro Pavelka (BCD '77, '81), clinical professor of OMS/P, are proud alumni of Delta Sigma Delta
International Dental Fraternity, the first dental fraternity formed in the United States.
Since its inception in 1882, the fraternity has grown to 37 undergraduate chapters in dental schools, including Baylor College of Dentistry's Lambda Lambda chapter. As part of the lifelong
membership commitment made to members when they joined the organization as dental students, the fraternity also has 45 graduate chapters for DSD alumni around the world. Currently, the only Texas chapter
is based in Houston – but that's about to change.
Alexander and Pavelka are forming a new North Texas graduate chapter in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.
After three years of foundation work with the Supreme Chapter of Delta Sigma Delta (which governs the whole fraternity internationally) and two mailings sent to almost 700 DSD alumni in the North Texas area, the new chapter is about to become a reality.
Applications and dues are being received for charter memberships in the new chapter; the first officers will be elected in November. Deadline for charter membership is Nov. 1. For more
information, contact Alexander at Ext 8455.
"We anticipate that the new chapter will work extensively with BCD's Lambda Lambda chapter," Alexander said. For example, a joint service project and social events are being planned.
