BCD 20 Year Employee - Profile
Dr. Brendan S. Wong, Biomedical Sciences

Dr. Brendan Wong, associate professor of biomedical sciences, has worked at Baylor College of Dentistry for 20 years. He has stayed, he said, because of the collegial atmosphere of the college.

Wong's favorite aspect of teaching is "seeing the look on students' faces when they are finally able to comprehend some difficult concepts." He has been course director for the neuroscience course and will soon begin the course directorship for the physiology course. He also is the radiation safety officer for the college.

The thing Wong enjoys most about his job is that dental students have consistently scored much better than the national average on the biochemistry/physiology section of the National Board Examination Part I.

During his tenure on the BCD faculty, Wong has observed significant changes in both the college's building and its infrastructure. "Two more floors have been added to the building, we have installed new dental chairs, and the college is continuing to embrace digital technology," he observed.

Wong enjoys travel and music and stays busy at home as well as work. "I am grateful and amazed at the continued, though slow, progress that my wife, Mimi, has had since her severe stroke more than two years ago," said Wong. "Our daughter, Stephanie, is in the last year of her optometry program in the United Kingdom."
