Betty O. Hagins, assistant to the associate dean of
finance in financial services, can't believe she has been at Baylor College of Dentistry for 30 years.
"I originally thought I'd stay three or fours years and move on, but I enjoyed it so much that I never wanted to leave," she said. "Before I knew it, I had been here 30 years."
After being a stay-at-home-mom for five years, Hagins started working at the college as a cashier. The college's work schedule and the holiday break fit nicely with her schedule at home.
"My oldest son was in first grade and my younger son, who was only three at the time, wanted to go to school like his older brother, so I enrolled him in my church's daycare," Hagins said. "I came to BCD
because the hours were good and I would get home and still have plenty of time to spend with my boys. I also would be off work when my sons were out of school for the holidays."
During her tenure, Hagins has enjoyed the camaraderie at BCD and is appreciative of the relationships she has built with faculty, staff and students. Hagins has many fond memories during her time at the college, but
working with the students is one that she cherishes.
"Although I don't work with the students as much anymore, I enjoyed it because they were always so excited and had such bright futures ahead of them," Hagins said. "I like helping them work out any
problems they had to make sure they had a positive experience and a smooth transition through their four years of dental school."
Hagins loves music and travel and she looks forward to visiting Tulsa, Okla., to spend time with her 4-year-old granddaughter. She and her husband, Loyd, also enjoy taking in the shows in Branson, Mo.,
and hiking in Colorado.
