BCD plans 5th Annual Dr. P. Earle Williams Lectureship

Dr. James B. Holton (BCD '68, '71) will be the featured speaker at the 5th Annual Dr. P. Earle Williams Lectureship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery scheduled for Jan. 18, 2003, in Dallas. Sponsored by Baylor College of Dentistry and hosted by the college's Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/Pharmacology, the symposium will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast in Baylor University Medical Center's Beasley Auditorium. Holton will speak on "Facial Osteotomies for Skull Base Access and Related Surgery of the Maxillofacial Complex." An oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Tyler, Texas, Holton also is director of the Northeast Texas Regional Craniofacial Outreach Clinic and the Center for Corrective Surgery, both in Tyler.

The Williams Lectureship is presented in memory of the 1926 BCD alumnus and "dean" of North Texas oral and maxillofacial surgery who also served as president of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Nationally known for his professional dedication, concern for patients and devotion to his family, Williams established himself as a medical pioneer, teacher and public speaker. His genuine concern, sense of humor and amateur magician skills endeared him to all who met him, enabling him to bridge both generational and professional gaps in all areas of his life. In that tradition, invited lecturers for this symposium are selected on the basis of their distinguished scholarly accomplishments and their senses of humor.

The tuition-free lectureship is made possible each year through voluntary contributions of colleagues to perpetuate the fund. It also is sponsored by 3i Implants, the Walter Lorenz Surgical Company and David Werntz, Walter Lorenz's Dallas distributor. Texas State Board of Dental Examiners' continuing education credit (three hours) will be provided to participants.

For more information about the Williams Lectureship or to place a name on the event's mailing list, contact BCD's OMS/P department by calling Ext 8981 or by campus mail: Williams Lectureship, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/Pharmacology. Advance registration is required by Jan. 10, 2003.
