Biomaterials Science
Presentation: Dr. William A. Brantley presented "Laser Deposition of Ti-6Al-4V Alloy: Microstructural Analysis" at Baylor College of Dentistry Oct. 7. While here, he conferred with
Okabe and Dr. John Cai on research projects on titanium casting and titanium-ceramic systems.
Brantley is professor and director of the graduate program in dental materials in the Section of Restorative
Dentistry, Prosthodontics and Endodontics at Ohio State University College of Dentistry. He was Cai's mentor during his graduate studies at the university.
Other News: Dr. Toru Okabe participated in the meeting of the International Standards Organization in
Vienna, Austria, Sept. 21-29. He serves as a U.S. delegate (expert) on the committees dealing with dental amalgam and mercury issues.

Benson presented another CE program, "Current Radiology in the Dental Office," during the Naval Reserve Dental Seminar Sept. 22 at the National Naval Dental Center in Bethesda, Md. The Naval
Reserve Readiness Command Mid-Atlantic sponsored the seminar.

Presentation: Dr. Stan Cobb and Dr. John Patrick addressed the staff and residents at Children's
Medical Center of Dallas Oct. 9. Patrick also spoke to the BCD student chapter of the Christian Medical and Dental Associations. Considered an expert on bioethics, Patrick presented "What Hippocrates
Remembered That We Have Forgot."
Patrick has published more than 80 papers on the topic of malnourished children. He took early retirement from the University of Ottawa in Canada and now serves as professor of history, medicine and
faith at Augustine College. He trained at Kings College in London and has degrees in biochemistry, medicine, nutritional biology and pediatrics.
