TAWD members brave rain to race for the cure
 Rainy weather didn't dampen the spirits of members of the
Baylor College of Dentistry chapter of the Texas Association of Women Dentists who participated in the 20th annual Komen Dallas Race for the Cure Oct. 19. They arrived bright and early
to show their support for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, which sponsored the race as part of the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world.
Crest sponsored BCD's TAWD team by donating their registration fees and printing the "in memory/in celebration" T-shirts participants wore. Team members raised $185,
which will be donated to the foundation, by soliciting names for the T-shirts.
"We ran in memory of Rosalyn Gan and Rose Scritchfield," said Karina Marr (D2), TAWD luncheon coordinator. "We ran in celebration of Marlene Gray, Mavis Henry,
Debbie Hilscher, Dorothy Hubacek, Priscilla Modrall, Dorothy Moore, Joann Musso, Karen Smith and Gemma Stanford."
BCD team members included first- through fourth-year dental students. D4 participants were Shannon Coyle, Natalee Noble and Jackie Vo. D3 students were Jamilyn
Aubel; Brandy Burnett and her husband, Jeff; Melisa Harnden; Anne Hempstead; Tanya Pierce; and Jill Sentlingar. D2 students were Shalisa Duhon
Garner, Julia Hawthorne, Sarah Kong, Joanne Lewis, Karina Marr, Tammeka Nickleberry, Lynette Ogletree and Kacey Russell. Michelle Carter (D1) also was a team member.
Dr. Loulou Moore (BCD '93,'94), assistant professor of restorative sciences, is the chapter's faculty adviser.
Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds of the Dallas race will fund local breast cancer education, screening and treatment projects for medically underserved women.
The remaining 25 percent will support the national foundation's award and research grant program, which provides funding for groundbreaking breast cancer research and
innovative projects in the areas of breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment.
