The Baylor College of Dentistry chapter of the Texas Association of Women Dentists has named its officers for 2002-2003. They include: Jill Sentlingar (D3), president; Shannon Coyle
(D4), vice president; Jamilyn Aubel (D3), secretary-historian; Julie David (D3), treasurer; Megan McKenry (D2), community service; Ann Haggard (D3) and Mary Tran
(D4), social; and Alison Damarodas (D3) and Karina Marr (D2), luncheons.
BCD announces HIPAA Review Team members
April 14, 2003, is the deadline for compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, which was passed by Congress in 1996. The act covers a wide range of issues,
including:
- assuring portability of health insurance coverage;
- mandating a fraud-and-abuse control program;
- creating medical savings accounts; and
- administrative simplification provisions, such as privacy.
Dr. James Cole
(BCD '75), dean of Baylor College of Dentistry, is chair of the HIPAA Task Force for The Texas A&M University System. The task force is responsible for coordinating the efforts for systemwide compliance.
The BCD team plans to have the procedures and protocols drafted by December and to implement compliance measures beginning in January 2003. Team members include: Dr. Thomas Hasegawa,
associate dean for clinical services, compliance officer; Dr. Robert Cederberg (BCD '79), associate professor and director of quality assurance and limited care in diagnostic sciences,
privacy/training officer; Cindy Ceen, assistant dean for administration, security officer; and Marilyn Todd, patient advocate in clinical services, contact person.
Representatives on the BCD team include: Ann McCann, director of assessment in academic planning and development; Dr. Francisco Rivera-Hidalgo,
associate professor and director of research in periodontics; Dr. Emet Schneiderman, associate professor and director of information technology services; and Dr. John Wright,
professor and director of pathology in diagnostic sciences.
