Grogan achieves ACD fellowship
Dr. David Grogan (BCD '81, '86), assistant professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery/pharmacology, was inducted as a fellow of the American College of Dentists during the organization's 82nd annual meeting Oct. 18 in New Orleans. Founded in 1920, ACD recognizes dentists who have made significant contributions to the advancement of dentistry and promotes excellence, ethics and professionalism in dentistry. Awarded by invitation only, ACD fellowship is based on demonstrated leadership and contributions to the dental profession and society.
ICD names four BCD fellows
The International College of Dentists inducted four BCD faculty members into its ranks as fellows during the organization's annual meeting Oct. 18 in New Orleans. An honorary organization for the recognition of
outstanding and meritorious service to the profession, ICD presented the fellowships for "conspicuous service rendered in the art and science of dentistry" to: Dr. Jeff Genecov
(BCD '85, '88), adjunct clinical assistant professor of orthodontics; Dr. Stephen Parel, professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery/pharmacology and director of BCD's Center for Maxillofacial Prosthodontics;
Dr. Miro Pavelka (BCD '77, '81), clinical associate professor of OMS/P; and Dr. John Wright, professor and director of pathology in diagnostic sciences.
Resident receives scientific award
Dr. Reena M. Talwar, a resident in oral and maxillofacial surgery/pharmacology, received one of only two scientific awards for her poster presentation titled "Gene AtlasTM Array Technology Used to Elucidate Effects of Estrogen on Chondrocytes." The award was presented during the 84th annual meeting of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in Chicago Oct. 2-5. It is Talwar's third consecutive award for scientific merit. Dr. Carina Schwartz-Dabney (BCD '93, '00) for "Edentulation Alters Material Properties of Cortical Bone in the Human Mandible."
