BCD hosts another record-breaking Family Day April 9
When more than 330 family
members, friends and faculty of first-year dental and dental hygiene students gathered for Family Day at Baylor College of Dentistry on April 9, they made history. The crowd marked a record attendance for the annual
event.
Designed to give families the opportunity to learn firsthand about the BCD experience, the day began with a coffee reception where families met with Dr. James Cole
(BCD '75), BCD dean, faculty and administrators. Next, dental families listened to presentations by Dr. Gary Coleman, associate professor of diagnostic sciences, and Dr. Robert Spears (BCD '02), assistant professor of
biomedical sciences. Dental hygiene families gathered for a panel presentation by Glenna Johns (BCD '65, '77, '99), assistant professor of dental hygiene in BCD's Caruth School of Dental Hygiene;
JoAnn Scofield, assistant professor of dental hygiene; and Dr. Fred Williams, associate professor of biomedical sciences.
A first-year student slide show titled "A First-year
Perspective" was presented after which dental families participated in an interactive lab and waxing procedure while dental hygiene families participated in an interactive clinic activity. In addition, Dr. Steve
Griffin (BCD '85), assistant professor of restorative sciences, and Dr. Margaret Yanus, assistant professor of restorative sciences and director of
BCD's Dental Simulation Laboratory, showed the families the inner workings of the lab. The event concluded with a tour of the facilities.
