Teachers of the Year earn students' favor
Xs and checks were the standard marks used when dental and dental hygiene students cast their ballots for the Teacher-of-the-Year Awards in April. Some
students, however, were a bit more emphatic when selecting Dr. Amp Miller III (BCD '73, '80) as the dental honoree and JoAnn Scofield (BCD '01) as the dental hygiene honoree.
Boldly circled names appeared on both ballots, as did a smiley face. One of Scofield's proponents made her opinion clear by using three checkmarks and three exclamation points, while one
Miller supporter underscored his selection by writing, "If everybody was like this man, dental school would be much more fun!" When students express their regard like this, it is no wonder the
teachers who are selected for this honor each year count it as a career highlight.
Miller and Scofield were first recognized May 7 when the BCD Alumni Association's Teacher-of-the-Year Awards were presented during the Senior Celebration Dinner
Dance at the Fairmont Hotel. The event was sponsored by BCD and the BCD Alumni Association.
