Andrea Janik-Keith (D1), Todd Kovack
(D1) and Erin Stuewer (D1) were selected to participate in summer externships by the American Student Dental Association's board of trustees during its spring meeting in
April. The students hold three of only seven positions available; they were selected from a competitive applicant pool of more than 50 dental students from across the country.
Janik-Keith is the research extern and
Kovack is the state government affairs extern. Both will spend four weeks in Chicago at the American Dental Association's headquarters. As the national health policy extern, Stuewer will spend six
weeks at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C. Each extern will present a report on their experience during the 2005 ASDA Annual Session in Houston in October.
"As Region 9 trustee for ASDA, it is my
privilege to announce their selection," said Jason White (D3). "As a BCD student, however, I am proud that Andrea, Todd and Erin will be representing Baylor College of Dentistry as national leaders in ASDA.
"I hope their experience will encourage other students to get involved in leadership positions in our local ASDA chapter and at the national level," White continued. "Even though we are students, it is important that
we have young leaders speaking up for our future in dentistry. Our profession would not be as strong as it is today if young dentists did not take pride in organized dentistry."
