Alumni Association

Check out BCD Alumni Association news and calendar information at www.bcdalumni.org. Make plans to attend these upcoming events:

  • June 10: Alumni reception during the New Mexico Dental Association's annual session from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency in Albuquerque.
  • June 11: Class of 1975's 30th Reunion Dinner and Dance. For more information, contact Dr. Tip Tippit at 713-465-1860 or tip@tippitdental.com.

Employment Opportunities: Job listings for job seekers and recruiters are available on the Alumni Association's website at www.bcdalumni.org. Contact the association at 800-203-3581 for more information.

2006 class reunions are being planned. The following classes will be celebrating reunions during Homecoming Weekend 2006 (Jan. 26-29, 2006): 1956, 1961,1966, 1971, 1976, 1981, 1986, 1991, 1996, 2001. What's the secret to a successful reunion? YOU! If you would like to help with your class reunion, please the Alumni Association at 800-203-3581.

Caruth Alumni: The Alumni Association needs your help. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Caruth School of Dental Hygiene in 2005, a permanent display is being created of group photographs for each of the dental hygiene senior classes. We are missing the photos for 1973-1977, 1986, 1988-1990 and 1993. Contact the association at 800-203-3581 to help with the class photo needs.

Student loan consolidation: Have you consolidated your federal student loans? If not, now is the time to do so. Interest rates on Federal Stafford Loans (subsidized and unsubsidized) are variable and change every year on July 1.

Under existing regulations, you can lock in the interest rate at a weighted average of the loans being consolidated. The current interest rate is 2.77 percent on loans issued after July 1998. That rate is expected to rise 1.5 to 2 percent to as much as 4.75 percent on July 1, so act quickly. (Note: This applies to new consolidation loans only. If you have already consolidated your loans, you cannot get a new consolidation loan unless you have borrowed new student loans after the consolidation.)

For more information, contact your lender or BCD's Student Aid Office at 214-828-8236.
