Presentations: Dr. Robert Spears presented a lecture titled "Oral Histology for the Medical Student" to students of The Texas A&M University System Health Science Center College of Medicine on April 15. The lecture was part of the college's general histology course.

These presentations were made at the Experimental Biology 2003 meeting April 10-15 in San Diego. Abstracts will be published in the FASEB Journal.

  • Bellinger LL, Hutchins RJ, Kerins CA, Kramer PR, Spears RD, Carlson DS. Effects of peripheral injection of complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA) on meal patterns: comparison to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) injection.
  • Marr K, Wellman PJ, Bellinger LL. Effects of i.c.v. infusions of neuropeptide-Y (NPY) and cocaine-amphetamine-regulated-transcript (CART) on meal patterns in nicotine (N) treated rats.
  • Opperman LA, Ong N-T, Rawlins JT. Transcription factor and growth factor receptor regulation by Tgf-ß2 in fetal rat coronal sutures.

Clinical Services

Presentations: Dr. Thomas K. Hasegawa Jr. presented "Principled Decision-making in Dental Practice" at the Kentucky Dental Association's annual session April 4. The program was sponsored by Health Resources Inc. in cooperation with the Texas Section of the American College of Dentists.

Hasegawa presented "Professional Ethics and Integrity in Dentistry" to third-year dental students at the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry April 24. The program was part of the school's overall ethics curriculum.

Dental Hygiene

Presentation: Kathleen Muzzin presented a table clinic titled "Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome: A Review, Case Report and Dental Implications" at Special Care Dentistry's annual meeting March 29 in Chicago. Lisa Harper is the co-author.

Periodontics

Presentations: Dr. John Callia presented "The Use of PRP in Ridge Augmentations" to the Southwest Society of Periodontists Feb. 7 in Dallas. He made the same presentation to periodontics residents and faculty at the University of Monterrey Feb. 20 in Monterrey, Mexico, and at the Baylor Implant Seminar March 24 at BCD. Callia also presented "The Comparison of EMD and Recombinant Amelogenin in the Rat Calvarial Model" Feb. 21 at the University of Monterrey.

Dr. Terry Rees presented an all-day discussion on "Periodontics and Oral Medicine" to the Lancaster, Ohio, Dental Society March 28.

Other News: Angela Lee-Noles and Dr. Thomas Stanford attended the Western Regional Examining Board conducted at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry March 21-25 in Loma Linda, Calif. Lee-Noles served as an assistant auxiliary supervisor. As an observer, Stanford participated in calibration exercises with the examiners and observed the examination process. Stanford also was appointed an academic member of the WREB Periodontics Committee.
