More than 200 family members, friends and faculty of first-year dental and dental hygiene students gathered for Family Day April 5 at Baylor College of Dentistry. The annual event
gives families the opportunity to learn firsthand about the BCD experience.
The day began with a coffee reception where families met with faculty and administrators. Next, Dr. Robert Spears (BCD '02), assistant professor of
biomedical sciences, moderated the program. Keynote speaker Dr. Gary Coleman,
associate professor of diagnostic sciences, presented "Dental School: The First Year (What Just Happened and What Will They Come Up with Next?)."
A first-year student slide show titled "A First-year Perspective" was introduced by class presidents Jason White (D1) and Emily Whittington
(DH1). Students then took their families to participate in interactive activities in both the lab and clinic, where family members learned that it isn't as easy to "cut a prep" as it first appears to be.
