Texas Gov. Rick Perry reappointed Erle Nye of Dallas to The Texas A&M University System board of regents April 2. His term will expire Feb. 1, 2009. Nye served as member and chair of the Baylor College of Dentistry board of trustees and was a founding member of the Baylor Oral Health Foundation. He was named to the BCD Hall of Fame in 1993. Alumni Association Check out Baylor College of Dentistry Alumni Association news and calendar information by clicking on "Alumni Services" on BCD's Web site at www.tambcd.edu. BDR Online BCD faculty, staff and students are encouraged to submit professional and personal news for publication in the Baylor Dental Record Online, BCD's monthly online newsletter. Some submissions may be held for other publications such as the Baylor Dental Journal, the college's annual magazine, or C-Scan, the quarterly newsletter of The Texas A&M University System Health Science Center. The deadline for submissions is generally the Friday following the first Monday of each month. However, a reminder will be sent via e-mail prior to each deadline. BCD Calendar The Baylor College of Dentistry calendar of events and activities is available to faculty, staff and students on-campus via the college intranet. Just click on "College Calendar" to access it, and then click on a specific month for the current schedule. The Dean's Office maintains the calendar. To add an event, send a notice by campus mail or e-mail to Sara Wartes (swartes@tambcd.edu), administrative coordinator I in the office. Include the name of the event, the sponsoring organization (if any), date, time and place. For more information, contact Wartes at Ext 8474. Fund-raisers Breakers: A Coffee House and More is now open in the B-level adjacent to the student lounge. The coffee cart offers a variety of drinks including coffee, tea, latte, espresso, frappuccino, smoothies and more. A percentage of the proceeds benefits BCD Student Council projects. Obituaries James Coumpy passed away April 17 in Phoenix. His sister is Priscilla Gillaspie, animal technician in the Department of Biomedical Sciences' Animal Resource Unit. Dr. Lynden M. Kennedy (BCD '40) passed away April 21 in Dallas. After graduating as valedictorian of his BCD dental class, he taught full-time at the college before serving as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps. Kennedy was a member and chair of the BCD board of trustees in the early 1980s, was a charter member of the Baylor Oral Health Foundation board of directors, and was inducted into BCD's Hall of Fame in 1986. He also was a past president of the American Dental Association. Harlyn Tank passed away May 4 in Joliet, Ill. His daughter is Sharon Robbins, dental assistant II in restorative sciences. Reminders Health Care Provider Renewal Courses (CPR classes) will be held at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on May 13, 19 and 31.
