BCD Olympians come out on top

Several BCD teams won their competitions. Pictured are only three of the winning teams, including women's basketball, women's soccer and
men's softball.

"We're  #1!" was the chant of more than 100 Baylor College of Dentistry student athletes and supporters who participated in Dental Olympics in Houston April 5-7. For the second time in two years, BCD athletes brought home the top trophy from the annual event.

Dental Olympics is an extracurricular, intercollegiate competition sponsored by BCD, the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Dental Branch and the UTHSC at San Antonio Dental School. Student athletes compete in football, softball, soccer, volleyball, 5K, swimming relays, tennis, golf, pool and washers.

"We had a great time," said Amy Ragan (D1), who served on BCD's Dental Olympics Committee as sports representative for the first-year dental class. "It was nice to get some sun. As first-year dental students, spending our days in the BCD basement keeps us pretty pale.

"I've heard many of my classmates talking about the fun they had out on the courts and fields," she continued. "There's plenty of good-natured complaining about the bruises and sore muscles they returned home with, retelling stories about the fun social events, and making plans for another BCD victory next year!"

Todd Baumann (D4) served as chair of BCD's Dental Olympics Committee. In addition to Ragan, the committee's sports representatives included Brandon Allen (D1), Mary Anne Brooks (D4), Amanda Copeland (DH1), Michael Ding (D2), Danielle French (DH2), Cody Graves (D3), Ann Haggard (D2), Kelly Kemp (D3) and Marie Tran (DH2).
