Presentation: Four dental hygiene students – Cassie Epperson, Christy Flanagain, Joanne Martinez and Carrie McMurdie – joined Dallas Dental Hygienists' Society members Feb. 20 to present dental health education to 220 children in the Richardson Independent School District. The community service project titled "Dallas Dental Hygienists' Society and the Tooth Fairy ... A Great Team!" was part of February's Children's Dental Health Month activities. Diagnostic Sciences Presentations: Dr. Byron Benson was an invited speaker at the Dallas Dental Hygienists' Society meeting Jan. 16. He presented "Digital Radiography: Are You Ready for It?" On Jan. 29, Benson was an invited speaker at the Medical and Dental Preparatory Association at the University of Texas at Arlington. He presented "Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology: Dentistry's New Kid on the Block." The association membership comprises undergraduate students with career goals in dentistry or medicine. Dr. E. James Cundiff II presented an all-day program during the Southwest Dental Conference in Dallas Jan. 30. The title was "Oral Pathology Detection: A Simplified Diagnostic Approach." Periodontics Presentations: Dr. Farhad Boltchi presented a seminar titled "An Interdisciplinary Approach to Esthetic Implant Dentistry" on Jan. 27 to the faculty and residents of the Department of Periodontics at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. Drs. Nancy Burkhart and Terry Rees hosted a one-hour, online discussion session for the International Oral Lichen Planus Support Group Jan. 21. Dr. David Wray, dean of the dental school at the University of Glasgow at Glasgow Dental Hospital in Scotland, was special guest. Restorative Sciences Other News: Dr. Stanton Cobb attended the second annual Grahmann Medical Ethics Lecture Feb. 5 at St. Paul University Hospital in Dallas. Dr. Albert Moraczewski, founding editor of Ethics & Medics,
spoke on "Stem Cell Research: An Ethical Response." |
