College hosts Juneteenth celebration
Award-winning journalist Bob Ray Sanders is the
featured speaker for Baylor College of Dentistry's annual Juneteenth Celebration June 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the sixth floor. The event commemorates the announcement of the Emancipation Proclamation to
Texas slaves on June 19, 1865.
Sanders will discuss the significance of Juneteenth as well as ethics and reporting in light of the recent New York Times scandal. For more information about Sanders, see

The celebration includes an optional, catered barbecue lunch at a cost of $7 per person. Payment is due June 17. To make payment, contact: Beverly Anthony,

Juneteenth speaker's career spans three decades
Noted journalist Bob Ray Sanders' career has spanned more than 30 years and three media: newspaper, television and radio. He is vice president, associate editor and a columnist for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the paper where he began his journalism
career.
Sanders worked many years in public broadcasting at KERA-TV Channel 13, the Dallas/Fort Worth PBS affiliate, where he served as reporter, producer, station
manager and vice president. A 1969 graduate of the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, he has received some of journalism's most prestigious awards,
including: five awards from the Houston, New York and Chicago film festivals; five Dallas Press Club "Katie" awards; three Corporation for Public Broadcasting awards;
a regional Emmy Award, a National Association of Black Journalists award for "Best TV Sports Feature"; and a National Headliner Award for "Outstanding Investigative Reporting."
Other honors include: Ethics Award from the Texas Christian University journalism department; Distinguished Alumni Award from the Fort Worth Independent School
District; induction into the Hall of Honor at the University of North Texas journalism department; and the Thomas Jefferson Liberty Award from the Dallas Civil Liberties Union.
Sanders is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, the National Association of Black Journalists and the Dallas/Fort Worth Association of Black
Communicators. He chairs the board of Liberation Community, a nonprofit organization providing affordable homes for low-income people, and serves on the advisory board
of the AIDS Outreach Center of Tarrant County and on the board of directors of Goodwill Industries Inc.
Sanders is married to Dorothy Brown-Sanders. They have one son, Chandon.
