BCD faculty, students achieve recognition

Four Baylor College of Dentistry endodontics graduate students brought home the top awards for table clinic presentations at the American Association of Endodontists' annual session in May. Dr. Patil Kavita, second-year resident, and Dr. Torsten Steinig, third-year resident, garnered first-place honors for "Predictable Placement of MTA in One Visit Apexification Cases." Dr. Thomas Dunavant (BCD '02), second-year resident, and Dr. Joon Kim, third-year resident, took second-place honors for "The Dentco Easy Pneumatic Crown and Bridge Remover, the J Morita ATD Automatic Crown and Bridge Remover, and the Kavo CORONAflex."

Dr. K. Anthony Bolin (right)Dr. K. Anthony Bolin (BCD '03), assistant professor of public health sciences, received the first-place Leverett Graduate Student Merit Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dental Public Health during the National Oral Health Conference April 28-30 in Milwaukee. Bolin's presentation, "Nationwide Community Health Center Dentist Salary and Job Satisfaction Survey," highlighted the results of his dental public health residency project under the supervision of Dr. Jay Shulman, associate professor of public health sciences and director of the dental public health residency.

Edie CrouchEdie Crouch (D3) was awarded third place in the dental student table clinic category during the Texas Dental Association's annual session in May. Her presentation was titled "The Effects of Retentive Grooves on Bond Strength Between Artificial Teeth and Denture Acrylic Resin." Dr. Ali Bolouri, professor of restorative sciences, is her mentor. Adam Benham (D3), Tammeka Nickleberry (D3) and James VandeBerg (D3) also presented research during the meeting.


Dr. Toru OkabeDr. Toru Okabe, Regents professor and chair of biomaterials science, was presented the 2002 Japanese Society for Dental Materials and Devices Award at the society's 41st annual meeting in Tokyo April 18. The award recognized Okabe's long-term efforts to promote the international collaboration of the Japanese society with other countries in the areas of dental materials and biomaterials science. Particular importance was attached to Okabe's work in organizing the 1989, 1993 and 1997 international congresses on dental materials between the society and the Academy of Dental Materials, an international organization.

Dr. John D. Regan

 

Dr. John D. Regan, assistant professor of endodontics, is board certified by the American Board of Endodontics. He received notification May 16.
