BCD Alumni Association

Homecoming Weekend, sponsored by the Baylor College of Dentistry Alumni Association, is set for Sept. 20-21. The weekend includes continuing education, a women's seminar and the annual Alumni Gala. In addition, reunions are being planned for the classes of 1997, 1992, 1987, 1982, 1977, 1972, 1967 and 1962.

Six additional board members of the Baylor College of Dentistry Alumni Association were approved in May. They include Dr. Larry Herwig (BCD '84) of Dallas; Dr. Eugene Kouri (BCD '61) of Fort Worth, Texas; and Dr. Loulou Moore (BCD '93, '94) of DeSoto, Texas. Student representatives include Steven Alaniz (D3), Carrie Harrington-McMurdie (DH2) and Dr. Casey Stroud (BCD '01).

Birth

Jody Brutto, PC/help desk technician in information technology services, and Robert Grant, systems administrator in clinical services, welcomed their son, Dominic Anton Grant, May 22. He weighed 8 pounds, 8½ ounces and was 20½ inches long. Proud grandmother is Norma Grant, clinic coordinator in pediatric dentistry.

Notice

Dr. Nancy Burkhart, clinical assistant professor in periodontics, and Dr. John Wright, professor and director of pathology in diagnostic sciences, will host a discussion session for the International Oral Lichen Planus Support Group June 12 at 9 a.m. (CDT). The guest speaker is Dr. Marco Carrozzo. He is a professor and researcher in the oral medicine section of the Department of Clinical Physiopathology at the University of Turin in Italy.

Obituary

Climmie Hambrick passed away May 12 in Waxahachie, Texas. Her son is Nathaniel Spain, anatomical laboratory assistant in biomedical sciences.

Reminder

BCD faculty, staff and students are encouraged to submit professional and personal news for publication in the BDR Online, BCD's monthly online newsletter. Some submissions may be held for the Baylor Dental Record, a printed newsletter that is produced three times annually, or the Baylor Dental Journal, the college's annual magazine.

The deadline for submissions is generally the Friday following the first Monday of each month. However, a reminder will be sent via email prior to each deadline. To submit news or for more information, contact Elizabeth J. Fulce, publications editor in the Office of Communications and Development, at efulce@tambcd.edu or at Ext 8358.

Retirement

Dr. Tommy Gage retired from Baylor College of Dentistry for the second time May 31. After retiring as professor and vice chair of oral and maxillofacial surgery/pharmacology in August 2000, he continued with the college in a reduced commitment as director of curriculum in academic services. Gage served BCD as an employee for 33 years and as a student for seven years.

Dr. James L. Gutmann retired Feb. 28 after nearly 20 years of service to BCD. He was professor and director of the graduate endodontics program in restorative sciences.

Tenure

Dr. Herman Dumbrigue, associate professor of general dentistry and assistant director of advanced education in general dentistry, and Dr. Charles Wakefield, professor of general dentistry and director of advanced education in general dentistry, were awarded tenure by The Texas A&M University System's board of regents during its meeting May 23-24.
