Academic Services Presentation:
Ann McCann presented a workshop on competency-based education to dental hygiene faculty at Miami-Dade Community College in Florida May 29-30. The focus was to assist the faculty with the development of a dental hygiene station exam (objective structured clinical examination), which will be administered at the end of the program's first year.

annual meeting in St. Louis April 28-May 1. He attended sessions on microwave processing, failure analysis and optical material properties. Dr. Terry Rees was the main speaker at the American Academy of Oral Medicine's annual meeting in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., April 26. His presentation was titled "Oral Medicine in a Dental School Environment." Publication:
In May, Rees' paper titled "Periodontal Management of the Patient with Cardiovascular Disease" was accepted for publication as a position paper of the American Academy of Periodontology. Public Health Sciences Presentation: Phil Ford presented a program about "By the Roots" during the Texas Dental Association meeting in San Antonio in May. Restorative Sciences Dr. Amp Miller is Baylor College of Dentistry's new director of
curriculum. He will continue to teach part-time in the department. With this change comes two others. Dr. Dean Hudson is now interim chair of the
department; Dr. Steve Karbowski replaced Hudson as director of the comprehensive care program. |
