BCD students make presentations

Baylor College of Dentistry students and programs attracted primary and secondary students and the public in several Texas cities during the last two months.

Third-year dental students made Tooth Talk presentations to students at one public and six private elementary schools in Athens, Dallas, Fort Worth and Mesquite. Dental students also worked with middle school and high school visitors to the BCD campus in five Project Dental Awareness programs. By the Roots was presented to children at seven elementary schools in Dallas, Garland, Irving, Mansfield and Richardson.

Dental and dental hygiene students provided dental exams, oral cancer screenings and dental health education at 15 health fairs in Balch Springs, Cedar Hill, Dallas, Garland, Irving and Mesquite. Dental screenings were provided for the students at several elementary schools in Carrollton and Irving.

Supervising dentists were Dr. Kent Boozer (BCD '00), pediatric dentistry resident; Dr. Ana Gonzales Casafont (BCD '01, '02); Dr. T.C. Lyon, professor emeritus of public health sciences; Dr. Loulou Moore (BCD '93, '94), assistant professor of restorative sciences; Dr. John Nelson, retired associate dean for clinical services and professor emeritus of diagnostic sciences; and Dr. Kenny Thompson (BCD '00), pediatric dentistry resident.
